Our Labour and Employment Practice Group is a leading employment and labour group focusing predominantly on employer-side aspects of labour and human resources. Our clients are unionized and non-unionized, public and private sector and range in size from small business to multi-national companies.
We practice with a team-oriented approach, enabling expertise within our practice group and bench strength which can be mobilized quickly if a major project so demands, such as in situations such as strike management, applications for certification, injunctions or a workplace accident.
We address major issues including:
- union certifications and de-certifications
- unfair labour practice applications
- collective bargaining
- grievance arbitration and mediation
- injunctions and strike strategy
- interest arbitration
- wrongful and unjust dismissals
- employee discipline
- employment standards
- employment contracts and policies
- human rights and harassment complaints
- compensation, benefit and pension issues
- occupational health and safety
- employment issues on the sale or acquisition of a business
- workplace investigations
- all other related matters including alternate dispute resolution and training or seminars for human resources personnel
Our practice includes clients in the public sector, including all universities and various colleges in Manitoba, as well as the largest cities, towns and other municipalities throughout the province.
We act for major employers in the private sector, both federally and provincially regulated, who operate in key Manitoba industries including manufacturing, retail, construction, agriculture, transportation, health care and information/technology. We also represent numerous Aboriginal organizations and First Nations.
