Role Overview:
Taylor McCaffrey is seeking a Legal Assistant to work closely on a team comprised of a legal assistant and a litigation paralegal who support a group of Civil Litigation Lawyers, and perform substantive work that requires knowledge of Civil Litigation and Corporate & Commercial Litigation, particularly in areas including insurance, construction, corporate governance, collection, professional regulation, personal injury and estate litigation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ability to draft correspondence to clients and counsel
• Confidence to draft pleadings and legal documents
• Dictation – prepare letters, e-mails and court documents
• Compiling briefs
• Reviewing examinations for discovery transcripts and preparing lists of undertakings
• Enter data into Local Discovery/Eclipse, and working within to edit, organize and compile voluminous Affidavits of Documents
• Scheduling internal and external meetings, phone calls, or outlook calendar events
• Making necessary bookings, and updating lawyers’ calendars
• Entering lawyer time, prepare invoices; general and trust deposits of cheques
• Billing (preparing pre-bills for review and making necessary corrections)
• Organizing and managing files by scanning and copying documents
• Basic knowledge of CanLii and Westlaw to find copies of cases
• Monitor phone calls
• Documentation and review
• Prepares files for hearings
• Maintaining files in document management system
• Other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time
Competencies:
• Must be customer service driven
• Must show initiative to anticipate the needs of lawyers
• Be able to work independently and also work effectively as part of a team
• Handle a demanding workload and respond to changing priorities as needs arise.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with individuals within the firm and clients external to the firm.
• Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and implement projects in a timely manner
• Experience with Acumin and Local Discovery/Eclipse is considered an asset.
Qualifications:
• 2 years’ experience is considered an asset, but we welcome applications from post-secondary legal graduates with administrative experience who seek to learn and develop their skills and experience then advance in the firm.
• Post-secondary education in Legal Administration.
• Experience in the use of MS Office Applications.
• Experience in a similar role is an asset.
Schedule:
• 35 hour work week, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Role Overview:
We are currently seeking a full time Litigation Paralegal to provide support to lawyers in our litigation practice and our labour and employment practice.
This position is responsible for the preparation of complex litigation matters. The paralegal will conduct assignments in a number of areas such as personal injury claims, insurance, professional liability, health-care, debt collection and foreclosure, construction, product liability, wrongful dismissal claims and disability claims litigation.
Applicants are required to demonstrate integrity through a strong work ethic, personal accountability, professional image and ethical behavior.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Document Generation
- Drafting legal documents including pleadings, and correspondence to clients and counsel
- Dictation – prepare letters, e-mails and court documents
- Reviewing examinations for discovery transcripts and preparing lists of undertakings
- Preparing motion material (Notices, Briefs, and Affidavits), settlement documents (Notices and Releases), default documents, garnishment documents, pleadings (Statements of Claim, Defence, Third Party Claims, Counterclaims and Cross Claims), and documents in aid of Execution, Writ of Sale and Seizure.
- Entering judgments and obtaining Orders
- Document Management and Assembly
- Compiling briefs
- Inputting, organizing, editing and compiling Affidavits of Documents using Local Discovery
- Basic knowledge of CanLii and Westlaw to find copies of cases
- Preparing files for hearings
- Organizing medical records for electronic delivery; reviewing and summarizing medical records
- Administrative Support
- Conducting searches in the Winnipeg Land Titles Office, Personal Property Registry, Motor Vehicle Branch, Court of Queen’s Bench, and Bankruptcy.
- Conducting legal research and preparing legal memoranda
- Assisting with Examinations for Discovery including preparing and answering undertakings, organizing of supporting documents, reviewing and summarizing transcripts and communication with clients regarding answers to undertakings
- Interviewing witnesses; preparing witness statements; preparing and serving Subpoenas
- Retaining experts and preparing instruction letters enclosing supporting documents, with view to obtain expert opinion
- Assisting with preparation for trials, appeals and other legal or administrative proceedings
Competencies:
- Ability to work independently and also work effectively as part of a team.
- Capacity to handle a demanding workload and respond appropriately to changing priorities as needs arise.
- Ability to act with discretion when handling confidential information.
- Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with individuals within the firm and clients external to the firm.
Qualifications:
- Progressive experience as a legal assistant in the litigation area and/or 2 years’ experience as a paralegal.
- Post-secondary education in Legal Administration.
- Experience in the use of MS Office Applications.
- Knowledge of document management software, specifically Local Discovery or Eclipse is an asset

Role Overview:
Taylor McCaffrey LLP is seeking a Paralegal to join our Real Estate paralegal team. This team works closely with each other and their team leader to support several lawyers and partners with real estate files.
This position requires you to have thorough knowledge and to perform substantive legal work involving all aspects of various residential conveyancing transactions including conducting searches, drafting closing documents and trust letters, dealing with opposing counsel, and attending to the closing of the transaction, which may involve condominiums, leased lands and standard residential properties. While each transaction would have a responsible lawyer who would oversee your work and be available to provide input, advice and guidance, you would be expected to handle the majority of the work independently with minimal input from the lawyer. Must be proficient in doing e-registrations, using Word and able to quickly become proficient in using our conveyancing, accounting and document management software.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare documents including trust letters.
- Request and process mortgage advances, stage payments and file payouts such as mortgages, outstanding taxes, water accounts, balances due with interest and net proceeds.
- Responsible for preparing transfer/caveats/mortgages for closings.
- Various real estate searches (tax, title), company searches, and Personal Property Registry searches.
- Order documents from TPR (online).
- Prepare, register, and report mortgages including TPR smart forms.
- Producing and finishing reporting letters.
- Invoice clients.
- Perform interest calculations and prepare statements of adjustments.
- Open and Close files.
- Administrative duties including filing and photocopying.
- Correspond with clients, lenders, condo managers, law firms and other relevant parties.
- Performing miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Competencies:
- Must be customer-service driven.
- Be able to work independently and work effectively as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with individuals within the firm and clients or other parties external to the firm.
- Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.

- Ability to prioritize and manage competing deadlines.
Other:
