Elder Law

Many of our lawyers have developed a comprehensive understanding of a number of challenges that older people in Manitoba frequently face. In addition to advising on Wills, Estates and Trusts, our lawyers have knowledge in Elder Law and matters such as elder abuse (financial, physical and otherwise), elder exploitation and age discrimination.

We are also called on to counsel individuals, spouses and families on the sometimes difficult challenges of relocating elder relatives into care facilities, determining mental capacity and the ability to consent, and when it makes sense to seek guardianship over elder relatives. We counsel our clients with regard to wills, powers of attorney, committeeship applications and health care directives as well.

If you are an elder who is concerned about facing any of these challenges or a family member or friend concerned about an elderly person in your life, our lawyers can work with you, your family or other representatives to review your options and create a plan that fits your circumstances. This counsel can include working with families across multiple jurisdictions.
