Taylor McCaffrey LLP is very proud to announce that Kevin T. Williams and Lawrence I.Z. Pinsky have been appointed King’s Counsel (K.C.) by the Lieutenant Governor in council, based on recommendations made by the Minister following consultations with an advisory council.

This prestigious title recognizes exceptional merit and contribution to the legal profession. Appointees must demonstrate professional integrity, good character and excellence in the practice of law, and be acknowledged by their peers as leading counsel or exceptionally gifted practitioners. They also must have demonstrated exceptional qualities of leadership in the profession, including in the conduct of the affairs of the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Manitoba and other legal organizations, and/or have done outstanding work in the fields of legal education or legal scholarship.

Kevin’s contributions to the legal profession, our community and our firm are numerous and significant. Kevin is a managing partner of our firm.  His practice primarily involves insurance, construction, and professional and corporate governance issues. Kevin routinely advises clients on issues relating to procurement and tendering matters, contractual negotiations and problems that arise throughout construction. Kevin has also worked with numerous self-regulating organizations concerning professional standards and governance issues. Kevin has successfully represented clients before superior and appellate Courts in Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada on four occasions on behalf of his clients. Kevin regularly appears before numerous administrative tribunals, as well as professional and regulatory bodies on behalf of clients. Kevin sat on various committees and the Board at the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation for 19 years, where he ultimately served as Chair of the Board of Directors.

Lawrence’s contributions to the legal profession, our community and our firm are also numerous and significant. This year marks Lawrence’s 30th year practicing law.  Lawrence is known for excellence and innovation in the practice of law. Lawrence has been instrumental over the years in advocating not only for his clients but also for family law reform nationally and here at home in Manitoba. Lawrence was invited to speak to the Parliamentary Justice and Human Rights Committee respecting amendments to the Divorce Act that he and others were advocating for, many of which became law.  Lawrence was quoted by both the Minister of Justice and the Justice Critic in speaking to the amendments.  Lawrence has appeared before Committee at the Legislature in Manitoba and has been active in advocating for and obtaining several legislative innovations in the Province.  Beyond his very extensive experience in family law advocacy in all courts in Manitoba, Lawrence has been a strong advocate for access to justice and delivering innovative dispute resolution for families in Manitoba.  In that context Lawrence was one of the founders of FAMLI, the Family Arbitration Mediation Legal Institute.  He is serving as the first President of that organization.  He is also a founding member of NFLAC, the National Family Law Arbitration Course. In addition to Lawrence’s work in family law, Lawrence served three terms as a Human Rights Adjudicator determining human rights complaints in Manitoba.  Lawrence has lectured throughout Canada on family law and in the United States on Human Rights. Lawrence’s current practice includes family law and certain other specialized practice areas for individual clients.
