John A. Myers of Taylor McCaffrey LLP Awarded the Richard J. Scott Award

On Nov. 3, 2017, the Law Society of Manitoba presented John A. Myers with the Richard J. Scott Award at the 2017 Pitblado Lectures. Myers was honoured for his long-time commitment to public interest advocacy on behalf of persons living with disabilities, and his outstanding work as a civil litigator, practitioner and teacher in the area of intellectual property.
The award was created in 2013 in honour of retired Chief Justice Scott. It is awarded annually to a person who promotes the rule of law, through advocacy, writing or education.
Chief Justice Scott, who served as Manitoba’s Chief Justice for over 20 years and is a past president of The Law Society of Manitoba, chairs the distinguished selection committee.
Since 1991, Myers has represented clients before the Manitoba, Ontario and British Columbia Courts, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also arbitrated before the World Intellectual Property Organization, the National Arbitration Forum and the International Chamber of Commerce, and has coordinated litigation before the courts in the Republic of Singapore, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and numerous jurisdictions within Canada and the United States. Myers received the Best Lawyers™ 2017 Intellectual Property Law “Lawyer of the Year” award in Winnipeg and has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers™ in Canada since 2012.
Myers is a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars in Canada and the United States relating to all aspects of intellectual property, with a focus on the pharmaceutical industry.
