Role Overview:
Taylor McCaffrey LLP is seeking a Paralegal to join our firm’s Real Estate team. This team collaborates closely with each other to support lawyers with real estate files.
This position requires thorough knowledge to perform substantive legal work involving all aspects of various residential conveyancing transactions including conducting searches, drafting closing documents and trust letters, dealing with opposing counsel, and attending to the closing of the transaction, which may involve condominiums, leased lands and standard residential properties. While each transaction has a responsible lawyer who oversees the work and is available to provide input, advice, and guidance, you would be expected to manage most of the work independently with minimal input from the lawyer. Must be proficient in doing e-registrations, using Word and able to quickly become proficient in using our conveyancing, accounting, and document management software.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepare all necessary documents to complete the real estate transaction including trust letters, land titles and financing documents.
• Request and process mortgage advances, stage payments and payouts such as mortgages, outstanding taxes, water accounts, commission, balances due with interest and net proceeds.
• Prepare transfer/caveats/mortgages for closings.
• Various real estate searches (tax, title), corporate searches, and Personal Property Registry searches.
• Order documents from Teranet (online)
• Prepare, register, and report on mortgages including Teranet smart forms
• Producing and finishing reporting letters.
• Invoice clients.
• Perform interest calculations and prepare statements of adjustments.
• Open and Close files.
• Administrative duties including filing and photocopying.
• Correspond with clients, lenders, condominium managers, law firms and other relevant parties.
• Oversee administrative support on the Real Estate team.
• Performing miscellaneous duties as assigned.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with individuals effectively and tactfully within the firm and with clients or other parties external to the firm.
• Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and implement projects in a timely manner.
• Ability to prioritize and manage competing deadlines.
Other:
• Significant experience as a legal assistant in the real estate area and/or 10 years’ experience as a paralegal.
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience with LDD Connect
• Post-secondary education in Legal Administration.
• Experience in the use of MS Office Applications.
• Knowledge of document management, accounting and real estate software.
Job Type:
• Full time, 7 hours/day, 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday

Role Overview:
Taylor McCaffrey is seeking a Legal Assistant to work closely on a team comprised of a legal assistant and a litigation paralegal who support a group of Litigation and Labour Lawyers, and perform substantive work that requires knowledge of Civil Litigation and Corporate & Commercial Litigation, including personal injury and medical malpractice, insurance, construction, professional and corporate governance issues and pension law.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Document Preparation & Legal Drafting
- Draft correspondence to clients and opposing counsel
- Draft pleadings and legal documents with confidence
- Prepare letters, emails, and court documents from dictation
- Compile briefs for legal proceedings
- Review examination for discovery transcripts and prepare lists of undertakings
- Enter and manage data in Local Discovery, including organizing and compiling Affidavits of Documents
- File & Document Management
- Organize and manage physical and digital files, including scanning and copying documents
- Maintain files in the firm’s document management system
- Prepare files for hearings
- Perform documentation review as required
- Legal Research
- Utilize CanLII and Westlaw to locate and retrieve case law
- Scheduling & Calendar Management
- Schedule internal and external meetings, phone calls, and calendar events
- Make necessary bookings and update lawyers’ calendars accordingly
- Billing & Time Entry
- Enter lawyer time and prepare invoices
- Handle general and trust cheque deposits
- Prepare and edit pre-bills for review and corrections
- Administrative Support
- Monitor phone calls and provide front-line communication support
- Assist with other administrative and clerical duties as assigned
Competencies:
- Must be customer service driven
- Must show initiative to anticipate the needs of lawyers
- Be able to work independently and also work effectively as part of a team
- Handle a demanding workload and respond to changing priorities as needs arise.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with individuals within the firm and clients external to the firm.
- Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and implement projects in a timely manner
- Experience with Acumin and Eclipse is considered an asset.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Legal Administration.
- 2 years’ experience is considered an asset, but we welcome applicants with administrative experience who seek to learn and develop their skills and experience.
- Experience in the use of MS Office Applications.
- Experience in a similar role is an asset.
Schedule:
- 35 hour work week, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

- Produce documents, letters, accounts, etc. drafted by the lawyers
