Taylor McCaffrey is proud to announce that our colleague and friend, Doug Finkbeiner, Q.C., has received the Manitoba Bar Association’s 2022 Distinguished Service Award.

The Distinguished Service Award is a high honour presented annually to an individual who has contributed significantly to Manitoba’s legal profession and the broader community. Doug’s contribution and dedication to both have been exemplary.

Doug was admitted to the Manitoba Bar in 1975 and joined the Taylor McCaffrey family in 1980, where he served as our Chairman and Managing Partner for 28 years (1982-2010). Doug is still heavily involved with the firm’s management and has been a vital contributor to the culture and reputation of the firm.

His primary focus has been in Corporate and Commercial Law, where he specializes in purchasing and selling businesses and commercial properties. Doug has an outstanding reputation of integrity, fairness and diplomacy and has been an arbitrator/conciliator on various matters within the Winnipeg legal community.

Doug believes it essential to contribute to the practice of law through teaching. He has been a professor at the University of Manitoba and a coach and mentor to younger lawyers. Doug sees sharing this experience as rewarding and takes great pride in assisting lawyers in the practice of law and administration of justice.

Doug’s greatest inspiration is his family. He has been married to his lovely wife, Pat, for 45 years, and they raised three wonderful sons, Michael, John, and James. Doug is also blessed with three grandsons, Kaelan, Alder and Ahren. Doug is beyond proud of his family and enjoys watching them flourish and enjoy life.

His lifelong journey with volunteering has been Doug’s passion. For 25 years, Doug has been involved with the United Way and has spent over 40 years supporting the Paraplegia Foundation of Manitoba. Doug is always willing to assist people in his community and even beyond.

Taylor McCaffrey would not be what it is today without Doug’s enormous contribution and leadership. He embraces a responsibility to give back to others, and his altruism is seen by clients, colleges, and community members.

Congratulations, Doug, on a most well-deserved honour!
