Over the course of his career Ron has practiced in a wide range of commercial law areas, starting with mining and securities law, real estate and real estate syndications, corporate law and acquisitions, broadcasting and telecom law and acting for small aviation companies. In the time since the list has only expanded. Securities law and real estate syndications lead to decades-long counsel experience with public securities, and to counsel work for broker-dealers and issuers, the Winnipeg Stock Exchange and counsel work for government.

Broadcasting and telecom lead to decades-long experience with computers and information technology law. Corporate law and acquisitions work lead to lead status on a number of large transactions and to involvement in other significant corporate acquisition, sale and governance activities. Acting for small aviation companies lead to two decades as general counsel to a regional airline (until its eventual sale). These experiences have only strengthened Ron’s desire to help new clients who need legal advice for their own transactions and businesses.

Since the details of all of Ron’s endeavors in commercial practice are too extensive to describe in more detail, the list of positions appearing beside his name below is presented as a representative sample of his activities.

Of Note: A decade before the internet existed, in cooperation with the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Manitoba, Ron helped to develop an online access system to Manitoba provincial computer systems so that personal computer based online searches of the Manitoba Land Titles Office, Manitoba Companies Branch, Court of Queen’s Bench, Manitoba Mines Branch, Hansard of the Manitoba Legislature and other provincial databases became possible. To make such access even-handed, a non-profit subsidiary of the Law Society of Manitoba was established, Legal Data Resources (Manitoba) Corporation (LDRC), to provide this access to the legal profession, financial institutions and others. Ron has been its volunteer Chair since it started operations. Through LDRC Ron helped to organize the same type of access for tax rolls with the City of Winnipeg in the early 1990’s and subsequently pursued initiatives to advance Court technology in Manitoba. These endeavors, in turn, provided the experience required for Ron to help with computerization of the Winnipeg Stock Exchange (WSE) in the latter portion of the 1990’s including acting as chair of the WSE Technical Committee. With assistance from Norm Snyder, Ron also acted as WSE counsel in drafting a new WSE statutory charter and drafting new WSE By-Laws and Trading Rules. Importantly, while Ron put in the effort for these endeavors, the firm made them possible.
